Date

What is the difference between BOTOX® and botulinum toxin?

  • There is a common misconception that ‘BOTOX’ is a term short for botulinum toxin. However, BOTOX® is Allergan’s trademarked product, a form of botulinum toxin type A, and botulinum toxin is simply the neurotoxic protein that creates the neuromuscular paralysis. BOTOX® Cosmetic is one of the most widely trusted and utilized aesthetic procedures by doctors and medical professionals all over the globe.

How much research has been done on BOTOX®?

  • For over 15 years, BOTOX® Cosmetic has undergone countless clinical studies and is one of the most widely researched and studied treatment of its kind. It is approved for use in 96 countries.

What makes BOTOX® different from over-the-counter wrinkle creams?

The best way to compare the two is to understand how each works:

  • Many popular over-the-counter anti-aging products contain retinol, an ingredient made from vitamin A. It helps to boost collagen production and plump your skin to reduce the appearance of existing wrinkles. It also removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. Of course, as any over the counter solution, the levels of retinol are not going to produce the results that are nearly as quick and effective as BOTOX®.
  • BOTOX® takes wrinkle treatment a few steps further by halting the process of creating wrinkles and smoothing existing wrinkles. Over time, your face naturally contracts from smiling, raising eyebrows, frowning, etc. and that is what creates our facial lines. BOTOX® is injected into the muscles and temporarily reduces your muscle activity which will naturally reduce and prevent lines from forming.
  • It is often recommended to continue use of your retinol creams while using BOTOX®, because retinol and prescription retinoids will also treat sun spots and acne. But your doctor will tell you what is right for you!

Is BOTOX® FDA-approved?

  • BOTOX® is the first & only botulinum toxin to be FDA-approved to temporarily make moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feed and forehead lines look better in adults.

What is the recovery time after BOTOX® treatment?

  • Treatment require minimal downtime. Once you leave your provider’s office, you may go about your daily routine. However, your provider will give you certain instructions for the first few hours after treatment to ensure maximum and desired results are attained.
